I’m taking part in the Art House Co-op’s Sketchbook Project 2012 tour this year. Once you sign up to take part, they send you a little sketchbook which you then fill up according to the theme you chose. Then you post it back to them – the sketchbooks themselves then go on tour in America, England and Australia, and the digital versions are available to browse online. So exciting, if a little scary!
The theme I chose was ‘Travel with me’, which once I’d got started thinking about it I realised was actually a pretty big theme! In the end I decided to do an A-Z type approach, and make a little mini guide to travelling. The book originally had white paper in, but after a few failed attempts I went back to my old favourite – brown paper! I don’t know what it is about this paper, but seriously, I seem unable to draw on anything which is just plain white. It was also harder than I thought to think up pictures for all the letters, but this was all part of the challenge and made me draw things I wouldn’t normally think to draw, like the stinky durian fruit from Asia!
I’ve only got another couple of weeks til the deadline (31st Jan, eek!), so need to crack on and finish some of the pages, tidy things up, and then rebind the book. I’ll post more photos of the completed project when its done, and info about where you can see all the sketchbooks in full!
